Safe first steps you can try, and when to bring the laptop to a technician.

Laptop not turning on?

Remove the charger, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then reconnect and try again.
Check the adapter light and try another known-good charger of the same wattage.
If the power light comes on but the screen stays black, connect an external monitor.

Laptop overheating or shutting down?

Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface so the air vents are not blocked.
Listen for the fan: no sound or a grinding noise means the fan needs replacing.
Dust inside the heat sink and dried thermal paste are the most common causes.
A cleaning and thermal-paste service usually brings temperatures back down.

Laptop very slow?

Check Task Manager: if the disk shows 100% use, the hard disk is the bottleneck.
Upgrading from a hard disk to an SSD is the biggest speed improvement for most laptops.

Battery draining fast or not charging?

Check battery health: in Windows, run powercfg /batteryreport.
A swollen battery lifts the touchpad or base. Stop using it and replace it immediately.
“Plugged in, not charging” can be the adapter, the DC jack or the battery itself.
Use only an adapter with the correct voltage and wattage for your model.

Spilled water or liquid on the laptop?

Switch it off at once and unplug the charger. Do not try to turn it back on.
Remove the battery if it is removable, and turn the laptop upside down to drain.
Do not use a hair dryer or keep it in rice. Liquid keeps corroding the board.
Bring it in quickly: early cleaning greatly improves the chance of repair.

Hard disk not detected or files lost?

Stop using the drive immediately; every write can overwrite lost files.
Clicking or beeping sounds mean a mechanical fault. Do not keep powering it on.
Avoid free recovery software on a failing drive; it can cause more damage.
